NAME: Alberto Contador Velasco.

AGE: 29 (born Dec. 6, 1982).

BIRTHPLACE: Madrid, Spain.

WIFE: Macarena Pescador (Nov. 5, 2011).

TEAMS: Saxo Bank (2011-present); Astana (2008-10); Discovery Channel (2007); ONCE Eroski-Liberty Seguros (2003-06).

GRAND TOUR TITLES: Tour de France (2007, '09, '10); Giro d'Italia (2008, '11); Spanish Vuelta (2008). One of only 5 riders to win all three.

MAJOR RACE VICTORIES: Paris-Nice (2007, '10); Tour of the Basque Country (2008, 09); Tour of Catalonia (2011).

HEALTH SCARE: In May 2004, Contador sustained bleeding in his brain and crashed during the Tour of Asturias in Spain. He was diagnosed with a congenital vascular disorder, which can cause hemorrhagic stroke, and returned to racing eight months later. He is now an ambassador for the World Stroke Organization.

MISSED TOURS: Contador's Spanish team, Liberty Seguros, was excluded from the 2006 Tour de France because of alleged links to doping revealed in the Operation Puerto investigation. In 2008, Contador again was prevented from racing in the Tour when his new Kazakh team, Astana, was kicked out for blood doping during previous year's race, which Contador won riding for Discovery Channel.

CLENBUTEROL CASE: In September 2010, the International Cycling Union confirms Contador tested positive for clenbuterol in the final days of the Tour de France victory two months earlier. He is provisionally suspended; Spanish tribunal exonerates him in February 2011.

BAN: On Feb. 6, Contador is stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title and suspended two years for doping by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which rejects his claim of eating contaminated meat.
