British sprinter handed 4-year ban for doping

LONDON (AP) - British sprinter Bernice Wilson has been given a four-year ban after testing positive for two performance-enhancing drugs.

An independent national anti-doping panel upheld the suspension following an appeal by Wilson, who failed a doping test after a meet in Bedford, England, on June 12.

Wilson tested positive for testosterone and clenbuterol.

She received the maximum four-year sanction rather than the usual two-year ban.

UK Anti-Doping said Friday the panel found Wilson's offense a "very bad case of doping'' because she blamed other people and used multiple prohibited substances. The panel said she was also an experienced athlete "who saw herself as a role model to younger athletes.''

Wilson competed for Britain in the 60 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Paris last year, failing to reach the final.
