The Aggies scored twice in the ninth inning of Game Three to post a 5-4 triumph and advance. They have six players who have hit at least 10 homers, but this team belongs to two players who rank among the nation's best. RF Daylan Holt leads the country with 34 homers -- establishing new school and Big 12 records -- and drove in 105 runs. He was named a Freshman All-America by "Baseball America." The 6-1, 200-pound Holt recorded six multiple homer games and more than half of his hits went for extra bases. The pitching staff is led by junior LH Casey Fossum, an all-Big 12 selection. He completed eight games and struck out a school-record 158 in 126 1/3 innings. The team, as a whole, has established a new school mark with 127 homers this year, shattering the old record of 88. C Shawn Schumacher, 1B Jason Scheschuk, CF Steven Truitt, 2B Sean Haney and 3B Dell Lindsey have all reached the double-figure mark in roundtrippers. Schumacher leads the squad in hitting with a .385 average and has only struck out nine times. LH Matt Ward and RH Chance Caple helped the Aggies compile a respectable 4.26 ERA. RH Chris Russ can be dominant out of the bullpen, having gone 12-2 with a 3.39 ERA and three saves in 26 appearances, including two starts. He struck out 51 and walked 27 in 79 2/3 innings. Mark Johnson is the winningest coach in school history with 668 victories, surpassing Tom Chandler earlier this season. The Aggies are back-to-back Big 12 champions, but need to peform better than they have so far. They allowed 20 runs to Clemson in the first game of the Super Regional and were forced to win the College Station Regional out of the loser's bracket despite playing at home.
