SAN DIEGO (CNN/SI) - Thanks to the doubling of World Series ticket prices, each winning share from the 1998 Fall Classic will be worth about $320,000, approximately $100,000 more than the previous record.

The players' pool from postseason games grew to a record $39.3 million after the ticket hike, up from $23.4 million in 1997, the commissioner's office said Thursday.

Thirty-six percent of the money ($14.2 million) goes to Yankees players, who completed a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. Last year, Florida Marlins players got $8.4 million, which came to $188,468 a share.

The old record for a World Series share was set in 1996, when a full share on the Yankees was worth $216,870. The exact value of this year's full share, which depends on how many full and partial shares were voted by Yankees players, will be released in about a month.

Baseball raised box seat prices for World Series games from $75 to $150. At Yankee Stadium, the best box seats, which include waiter service, were sold for $300 apiece. In addition, approximately 60 first-row seats were sold for $700 each, a Yankees employee said.

Players get 60 percent of the ticket money from the first four games of the World Series and each league championship series, and 60 percent from the first three games of each first-round series.
