 Prominent Free Agents: Andy Benes, RHP Mike DiFelice, C Jeff Fassero, LHP Chuck Finley, LHP Dave Veres, RHP Rick White, RHP Woody Willams, RHP Jamey Wright, RHP The St. Louis Cardinals have begun putting the pieces in place for a new $325 million privately owned downtown ballpark. The team has put in place a finance team and detailed the roles of all the participants. "The new ballpark and Ballpark Village will be a source of pride for our region," Cardinals chairman William DeWitt, Jr. said. "Our willingness to make this unprecedented and substantial financial investment is rooted in our confidence in and our commitment to our fans and the St. Louis region." ... The Cardinals have some tough choices on their staff this offseason and decisions involving starters and relievers could be equally difficult. ... St. Louis did receive substantial Gold Glove consideration as 2B Fernando Vina, SS Edgar Renteria, 3B Scott Rolen and OF Jim Edmonds were given awards.
