It wasn't Boston's fault, as the team pulled out all the stops in their attempt to land one of the most respected minds in the game. As if deciding on a general manager was not a big enough issue, Boston had to deal with a rumor - reportedly coming out of Seattle - that the Red Sox were interested in free agent manager Dusty Baker. That necessitated a statement in which the club professed its appreciation for current skipper Grady Little. Add in the fact that the club has taken some heat for not making a run at Massachusetts native Tom Glavine and it hasn't been a good opening month of the offseason for the Red Sox.
