1998-99 record
37-2 overall, ACC (Lost in NCAA championship game to UConn)

Mike Krzyzewski, 469-155 at Duke (19 years), 542-214 overall
Projected starting lineup
G Jason Williams , 6-2/190, Fr.
Will become only the third freshman to start at the point in the Krzyzewski era.
G/F Nate James, 6-6/205, Jr.
Hard-luck player finally gets his chance to shine on the wing.
G/F Chris Carawell, 6-6/215, Sr.
Perhaps the league's most versatile player, both offensively and defensively.
F Shane Battier, 6-8/230, Jr.
He arrived with great defensive skills, added 3-point shooting last year and now hopes to be a bigger inside threat.
C Carlos Boozer, 6-9/260, Fr.
He looks like Brand, but his game is more like Danny Ferry and Christian Laettner.

Returns after a three-year absence while on a Mormon mission and a redshirt year; will be needed inside.

Outlook
|
Everyone knows about Duke's losses. Don't spend much time fretting over them, however; Krzyzewski sure won't. The Blue Devils bring in one of the nation's top recruiting classes, six players so highly regarded that few people expect the Blue Devils, who have won three consecutive ACC regular-season titles, to take much of a step backwards. The key to just how good Duke can be is how freshman point guard Williams, who joins Tommy Amaker and Bobby Hurley as Krzyzewski's only freshmen starters at the point, can lead the Devils. The rest of the pieces are in place.
