Campbell claims TAAC championship

PELHAM, Ala. (AP) -- April Cromartie scored 16 points to lead four players in double digits as Campbell beat Georgia St. 66-49 to win the Trans America Athletic Conference championship Saturday.

Campbell (22-8), the tournament's No. 2 seed, also captured its first NCAA Tournament berth.

Lisa Rugg scored 14 points for Campbell. Janice Washington added 11 and Sara Moore 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Leslie McElrath had a game-high 19 points for Georgia State (24-6), the top seed in the tournament

Campbell rallied from a 29-17 halftime deficit behind 50 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. The Lady Camels also made 13-of-15 from the free-throw line in the second half.

The Lady Camels went on a 13-0 run to start the second half, and took the lead on a jumper by Cromartie with 16:11 left.

Cromartie, the tournament MVP, gave the Lady Camels the lead for good on a three-point play with 5:31 left.

The Lady Camels went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final 1:34.

After shooting 43 percent in the first half, the Lady Panthers could only muster 8-of-28 from the floor after halftime.
