WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Ke-Ke Tardy scored 20 points and Marie Ferdinand added 19 as Louisiana State posted an 83-66 victory over Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Mideast Region.

Tardy went 8-of-9 from the field for the Tigers (20-10), who shot 58 percent (32-of-55) from the floor. They shot 64 percent (18-of-28) en route to a 43-32 halftime lead.

In the second round, Louisiana State will play either 14th seed Santa Barbara or No. 3 Purdue, the host school.

Kisha James scored 13 points and April Brown and DeTrina White had 10 apiece for the Tigers, who had 13 turnovers to Arizona State's 18. They also won the rebounding battle, 28-21.

Melody Johnson had 25 points for the Sun Devils (20-11), who shot 51 percent (24-of-47) from the field.
