LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Chrystal Starling scored 20 points off the bench as seventh-seeded Virginia Tech routed 10th seed Denver, 77-57, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Mideast Region.

Tere Williams added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Hokies (22-8), who rolled to a 42-17 halftime cushion. They shot 59 percent (16-of-27) in the first half, compared to 23 percent (6-of-26) for Denver.

Virginia Tech will face either second seed Texas Tech or No. 15 Pennsylvania in the second round. Texas Tech is one of the host schools for the first two rounds in the Mideast.

Sarah Hicks had 14 points and eight rebounds and Amy Wetzel added 12 and six for the Hokies, who held a 41-25 advantage off the boards.

Nikki Weddle scored 16 points but hit only 5-of-17 attempts from the field for Denver (24-7), which finished at 34 percent (21-of-61).
