STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Heather Haanen led a 3-point onslaught by hitting all six of her attempts as ninth-seeded Colorado State defeated No. 8 Maryland, 83-69, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's East Region.

The Rams (25-6) went 14-of-24 from 3-point range (58 percent), with Haenen, Jackie Campbell and Elizabeth English combining to go 14-of-18.

Haanen hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 15-5 run that gave the Rams a 60-45 lead with 10:33 to play. They led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

Colorado State's mild upset gives them a second-round matchup with host Connecticut, which embarrassed Long Island, 101-29, on Saturday night.

Haanen finished with 21 points and English added 16 for the Rams, who shot 56.5 percent (26-of-46) overall and hit 17-of-21 free throws.

Deedee Warley scored 21 points and Marche Strickland 15 for the Terrapins (17-12), who shot 56 percent (15-of-27) en route to a 39-35 halftime lead but just 38 percent (13-of-34) over the final 20 minutes.
