SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Ruth Riley had 16 points and seven rebounds and Amanda Barksdale added 10 and 11 as top-seeded Notre Dame trounced No. 16 Alcorn State, 98-49, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Region.

Riley, Notre Dame's star center, went 6-of-6 from the field for the Fighting Irish (29-2), who held a 54-4 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded Alcorn State (21-11), 62-34.

Ericka Haney scored 14 points and Alicia Ratay and Kelley Siemon added 13 apiece for the Irish. With Riley, they combined to go 23-of-35 from the field.

Notre Dame shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) overall, going 5-of-11 from 3-point range, and hit 21-of-30 free throws.

Taresha Coleman scored 15 points off the bench for Alcorn State, which shot just 21 percent (15-of-71).

The Irish will host eighth-seeded Michigan in the second round.
