DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Alana Beard poured in 31 points as No. 6 Duke rolled to its seventh straight victory with a 102-82 rout of Tobacco Road rival and 20th-ranked North Carolina in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup. Beard made 10-of-21 shots from the floor and 9-of-10 at the foul line for Duke (16-3, 8-0 ACC), which built a 54-32 halftime cushion by limiting the Tar Heels to 34-percent shooting (13-of-38). The Blue Devils topped the 100-point plateau for the fourth time. Monique Currie finished with 23 points and Iciss Tillis fouled out with 12 and eight rebounds for Duke, which has won 14 of its last 15 home games against ranked opponents. Michele Matyasovsky contributed 10 points and nine boards off the bench. North Carolina (14-6, 4-4) received 19 points from Coretta Brown and 15 from Leah Metcalf. But Nikki Teasley, who entered averaging 16.3 per game, made just 1-of-8 shots for eight points. The Tar Heels committed 18 turnovers and made just 2-of-14 shots from beyond the arc. Brown and Candace Sutton combined to make just 11-of-34 shots. Duke has won five straight against North Carolina and seven out of eight. |
