LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) -- Angie Welle shook off early foul trouble and became the leading scorer in school history as 10th-ranked Iowa State snapped a three-game losing streak with an 82-71 Big 12 Conference triumph over Nebraska. Already Iowa State's all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots, Welle made a jumper in the final minute to break the scoring mark set by Megan Taylor from 1997-2001. She finished with 18 points to push her total to 1,868 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tracy Gahan had 23 points and Lindsey Wilson 20 for the Cyclones (15-5, 3-5 Big 12), who shot 68 percent (15-of-22) from the field in the second half after battling to a 36-36 halftime tie. Iowa State made 14 3-pointers to compensate for 19 turnovers and extended its winning streak over Nebraska to six games. Keasha Cannon had 22 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Cornhuskers (12-8, 2-5), who have not beaten the Cyclones since the 1998-99 season. Nebraska also got 10 points from Shannon Howell but shot just 32 percent (12-of-37) after halftime. |
