Dutch TVM team says doping products were found in car

BRIVE, France (CNN/SI) -- Adding to the controversy surrounding this years Tour de France, TVM's team director Cees Priem said Saturday that French customs officials found banned substances in a car belonging to the Dutch cycling team TVM last March.

Priem told reporters that an investigation had been launched in Reims after the substances were discovered in the vehicle near the northern town.

He said the operation took place on March 5 after the Grand Prix of Valencia and that two TVM mechanics were in the car. They were not detained.

"We started our own enquiry within the team and tried to keep it secret," he told reporters.

He denied reports that some 100 doses were found.

"Much less," he said, adding that he thought the products had been placed in the car to harm the team.

The news leaked following the Festina doping scandal which resulted in the French team Festina's expulsion from this years Tour de France.

Festina's team director, Bruno Roussel has confessed to making doping substances available to his team. A medical member of the team, Willy Voet was arrested last week at the Franco-Belgian border on a charge of smuggling drugs.

Priem added that all his riders had blood tests before the start of the tour's seventh stage Saturday and all the tests proved to be negative.
