SEVERNA PARK, MD.

Shelton, 66, won her 300th game as a field hockey coach when Severna Park High defeated South River High 8-0. At season's end she was 306-39-5 with the Falcons, who won their 10th state title in 18 years, and her winning percentage of .874 is a record for a high school field hockey coach.

Surette

  Matt Surette
SPENCER, MASS.

Surette, a junior at Worcester Tech, broke two Division III single-game records for tight ends in the Engineers' 56-49 loss at Springfield College, by catching 17 passes for 362 yards. He also tied the division's single-season mark for receptions by a tight end, with 75.

JONESBORO, GA.

Charles, 14, swept the Grand championships of the Quarter Midget Association. Racing his Light B-class quarter-midget car at an average of approximately 35 mph, he won the Eastern and Western and Dirt Grands. He's the first driver to win all three races in one year.

GARTSON WATFORD HERTS, ENGLAND

Smith, a sophomore forward for the Seton Hall women's soccer team, led the Pirates to a 14-4 record with 56 points, on 25 goals and 6 assists. She was second in Division I in goals scored and broke Big East Conference single-season marks for points (41) and goals (18).

Bryant   Sharia Bryant
PHILADELPHIA

Bryant, a senior hitter for Temple, was named most valuable player of the Atlantic 10 women's volleyball tournament. She had 25 kills and 12 digs as the Owls beat Rhode Island 3-1 in the title game. Her younger brother, Kobe, plays basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Gent   Robert Gent
BEAVER, UTAH

Gent, 56, was named the male State Games Athlete of the Year. He earned seven gold medals in swimming, eight medals in track and field, and two golds in weightlifting at the Utah State Games. Over the last six years Gent has collected 44 medals in the Utah State Games.
