Jordan, Ali, Gretzky to attend SI show

NEW YORK (CNN/SI) - Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali and Wayne Gretzky head the list of sporting legends set to attend "Sports Illustrated's 20th Century Sports Awards," a two-hour special that will air live on CBS, Thursday, Dec. 2 (9-11 p.m. ET), from New York's Madison Square Garden.

Joining Jordan, Ali and Gretzky on the guest list will be Jim Brown, Jack Nicklaus, Bill Russell, Chris Evert, Magic Johnson, Carl Lewis, Billie Jean King, Henry Aaron, Arnold Palmer, Richard Petty, Martina Navratilova, Joe Montana, Tiger Woods, Peggy Fleming, Dick Butkus, Pelé and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The editors of Sports Illustrated selected 42 nominees in seven categories. One winner will be selected from each group. SI also will crown an overall Sportsman of the Century and name its Ten Greatest Sports Moments of the Century.

In addition, the magazine will honor an elite group of seven athletes who had a special impact on their sports, including Fleming (figure skating), King (tennis), Palmer (golf), Pelé (soccer), Petty (motor sports), Jackie Robinson (baseball) and Russell (basketball).
