Wilrey Fontenot
SI Grade
3.28
Position:
CB
Class:
Sr
School: Conference: Ht., Wt.:
5-8.5, 171
40 Time:
4.45

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who played 46 games with the first team at Arizona. Senior-year totals included 40/1/7 after 37 tackles the previous year. Sophomore-year numbers included 51/2/6.

POSITIVES: Small, feisty cornerback coming off a disappointing senior campaign. Fluid moving in reverse, quickly breaks to the throw, and shows a burst of speed. Stays with receivers out of their breaks, quickly locates the ball in the air, and shows ability in both man and zone coverage. Comes up the field to defend the run and screen passes.

NEGATIVES: Loses against large opponents. Looked tentative and lacked a sense of timing last season and misplayed a lot of throws.

ANALYSIS: Fontenot is a hard-working defensive back who was productive on the college level. Off-season shoulder surgery may have added to his woes last season, yet he is still a viable prospect who can be used in nickel or dime packages at the next level.

PROJECTION: Early Seventh Round
