Record: 9-4, 6-3 Big 12
Coach: Mack Brown, second year (18-7; 104-81-1 overall)
Top Off. Player: QB Major Applewhite (3,185 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs)
Top Def. Player: DE Aaron Humphrey (nine sacks, 29 quarterback hurries)
Season Summary:
A mostly promising season was tempered by a disappointing beginning and end. After a strange loss to N.C. State (three blocked punts) to open the season, Big 12 MVP Applewhite and stars Kwame Cavil and Hodges Mitchell led the Horns to nine wins in their next 10 games. But Texas is now coming off losses to Texas A&M and Nebraska.

Record: 7-4, 4-4 SEC
Coach: Houston Nutt, second year (16-7; 52-29 overall)
Top Off. Player: WR Anthony Lucas (822 yards, 22.2 per catch)
Top Def. Player: S Kenoy Kennedy (95 tackles, 10 pass deflections)
Season Summary:
What was shaping up as a disappointing '99 took a drastic turn for the better in November when the Hogs knocked off Tennessee and Mississippi State on consecutive weekends. Then it ended with a souring 35-10 upset at the hands of LSU. Clint Stoerner brings great leadership and experience at quarterback, and freshman Cedric Cobbs is the primary rusher.
