Record: 8-3, 4-3 Big East
Coach: Tom O'Brien, third year (16-17)
Top Off. Player: RB Cedric Washington (976 yards, 4.8 per carry)
Top Def. Player: DE Chris Hovan (11 sacks, 47 tackles for loss)
Season Summary:
Many would attribute the Eagles' record to a schedule that included Baylor, Navy and Northeastern, Rutgers and Temple. But the Eagles, who did land an impressive late-season win over Notre Dame, have a formidable defense with Hovan and safety Pedro Cirino. Tim Hasselbeck made great strides at QB, and Washington had several big games.

Aug 6  Remaining Big East schools meet to discuss future
  Record: 6-5, 5-3 Big 12
Coach: Gary Barnett, first year (49-61-2 overall)
Top Off. Player: QB Mike Moschetti (62.0 completion percentage, 2,688 yards)
Top Def. Player: LB Jashon Sykes (120 tackles, 17 for loss)
Season Summary:
Barnett's first season in Boulder was truly up-and-down. The Buffs' performances in embarrassing blowouts to Colorado State and Texas Tech were 180 degrees from a 38-24 defeat of Oklahoma and a near-upset of Nebraska the final week. Besides Moschetti, speedy cornerback/return man Ben Kelly is a key playmaker for the Buffs.
