Virginia Tech report Hokies' secondary ponders Warrick strategy

NEW ORLEANS (CNN/SI) -- Virginia Tech cornerback Anthony Midget has seen all the Peter Warrick film he can take. "His ability to turn nothing into a big play after he catches the ball," Midget said of the Florida State wide receiver, shaking his head. "That's where he'll kill you. We can't let him run around out there. We have to get good angles on him, because he changes directions so well. That's his strength." Midget was sitting in the same chair that Warrick was just minutes before when he said the only thing that could cover him was a blanket. "Lay a blanket down?" Midget said. "Wow. Peter Warrick is a great receiver. So he deserves to be confident. Me and Ike Charlton (Virginia Tech's other cornerback) know we have to step up. This is a great opportunity for us to go out and prove ourselves. Their whole receiving corp is great. They're the fastest group we've seen." Midget, like Warrick, is from Florida. Midget is from Clewiston, while Warrick is from Bradenton. "Those towns aren't very close," Midget said, "but I heard a lot about him. Bradenton has a great program, and everybody knew they had this great quarterback." But stopping Warrick has nothing to do with state pride, Midget said. "All the motivation I need is that we're playing for the national championship," he said. Virginia Tech outside linebacker Ben Taylor has also seen the Warrick tapes. "He's so elusive," Taylor said. "He doesn't have blinding 4.2 speed, but he has 4.3 speed right out of his cuts. He's at 4.3 immediately. We just have to cut down on his yards after catch. That way you can keep him from making big plays. We have to make sure we don't over-pursue." Defensive end Corey Moore has an opinion on stopping Warrick, too, but Moore has begged off any more interviews after his tirade of curses Friday. "He asked not to do any more interviews," Virginia Tech sports information director Dave Smith. "He has done a lot of interviews. He wanted to apologize to the reporter who asked the question (that sparked his anger), but we haven't been able to find him." Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster apologized to a room full of reporters for Moore. "I do know he wants to apologize," Foster said. "Acting like he did is not the way he is. We're all getting a little edgy. I'll apologize for Corey. He's a very fine man. I know he got some questions over and over, but that's no way to act. We emphasize to our players to treat people how you want to be treated. I'm sure if Corey had to do it over again, he wouldn't do what he did."
