The Plot

The Road to BCS Payday Orange fans bid a tearful adieu to their four-year, highlight-per-game QB. But there are signs of life in Syracuse, where seven defensive starters and an exciting kick returner come back. A quarterback controversy may rage until the season opener, but if you're looking for foreshadowing, how's this? The leading candidate's name looks an awful lot like a distress signal -- Madei Williams.

The Director

Paul Pasqualoni -- ninth year, 68-26-1; 102-43-1 overall

Starring

KR/WR Quinton Spotwood -- Dear Mr. Impact Player, please return healthy, we need your help. Love, Orangemen.
K Nate Trout -- The best PAT guy in the history of the Big East.

Co-starring

RB/QB?? Dee Brown -- Brown ran the option in high school and could run the offense at times.
LB Keith Bullock -- Considered one of the best linebackers in the conference, made 104 tackles (75 solo) last season.
OT Mark Baniewicz -- The 6-fot-6, 282-pounder anchors an experienced O-line that will be tested with so much inexperience behind it.

And introducing

LB Idris Price -- Two starters return at linebacker, but the juco transfer could challenge for playing time immediately.

Why it will work

The defense returns the lucky seven, and, on offense, hmm ... well, it took the loss of Peyton Manning for Tennessee (another team that wears orange, right?) for it to win a national championship.

Why it won't

The Orangemen will need more than an above-average defense, a game-breaking receiver and a kicker to score often enough to compete.
