Super Bowl XXXIII Preview Posted: Friday January 29, 1999 11:14 PM
Before the season, it was safe to say the odds of the Atlanta Falcons winning the Super Bowl were astronomical, right? And now, with the Falcons as touchdown underdogs against the defending champion Denver Broncos, you'd think an upset opportunity like this comes along only once in a blue moon, right? Well, as it turns out, Sunday is a blue moon. Yep. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize the event -- that's the second full moon in a calendar month, for you non-astronomers out there. And actually, it's a rarer occurrence than you'd think -- rarer than Halley's Comet, in fact. For the first time in 84 years, there will be back-to-back blue moons in January and again in March. No full moon in February's 28 days, but there are two each in the months before and after. The actual full moon is at 11:07 a.m. on Sunday -- that's actually during the pregame show, believe it or not -- but some seven-and-a-half hours later, there's an opportunity to witness another event that could -- yes, eclipse -- all others before it.
