Some are comparing Elway's situation with Jordan's after last season's NBA Finals AP

The fans have spoken. And they say they want to see John Elway chase history. No one has ever led his team to three straight Super Bowls titles. Elway has that chance if he comes back next season.

In a CNNSI.com Instant Poll, 59 percent of the more than 24,000 voters thought that Super Bowl XXXIII would be John Elway's last football game. We received an additional 200-plus e-mails from around the world. The responses we received gave a unique insight into those who have followed Elway's 16-year career, and how they feel about the idea of a Denver three-peat. About two-thirds of the responses were encouraging Elway to return for one last season with the Denver Broncos.

Frank Giuliani, Garwood, New Jersey
Leave John. Leave as the best. You'll be untouchable this way.

William Ishak, Vancouver, British Colombia
Give it a rest will ya? Even Jordan would give the Barkleys and Ewings of the NBA a chance at the title.

R. Riza, Quezon City, Philippines
Yes -- he may have Super Bowls but not super bones. Better to go out on top and fairly healthy.

Chuck Markiewicz, Ishpeming, Michigan
I think John Elway should retire now. He gets to go out on top as a two-time champion, leaving while he still has the ability, like Michael Jordan. It is far better to retire with grace than to go out as a washed-up player who drags his team down with him. I think Elway retiring now, following Jordan's retirement, sets a nice precedent for other players to emulate.

Marcos Gonzalez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
I think Elway should retire right now. After 16 seasons he has finally achieved absolute success, and I don't think he would be capable of three-peating. He should make this his last game, and he has given some hints about that. The only thing that could help Denver if he stays is that one last year would make transition between Elway and the next QB a little softer.

Anthony Harris, Kansas City, Missouri
No, he shouldn't come back. I'm tired of him destroying my Chiefs in the post-season!

Michael Ashworth, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The choice is clearly his to make, but he still has a strong arm, somewhat mobile, and makes good decisions. The Broncos are very talented and if he gets tired all he needs to do is hand the ball off.

Dexter Rhodes, Anna, Illinois
Jordan went out winning three in a row and had nothing left to accomplish, but nobody has ever won three superbowls in a row. Elway should go for it! It's never been done. IF he could pull it off he might go down as the best ever.

L. Adams, Boca Raton, Florida
John Elway should keep his engine revved up so he can be the only person to ever win triple Super Bowls in succession. This is akin to winning the Triple Crown in horse racing.

David Passarella, Austin, Texas
Please, please, come back....
