Getting back to work

There's nothing unusual about a team having an uncharacteristic off day, that's what the Rams are saying about what happened to their offense on Sunday. What is unique is that St. Louis's one-touchdown, three-interception, 51-yards rushing aberration appeared the week before the Super Bowl, when confidence should be peaking. "We want to get back to our style of offense and playing at our tempo and basically putting about 35, 40 points up on the board," wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim said. Running back Marshall Faulk said the game was a learning experience, that he now knows St. Louis can win close, low-scoring games. The Rams just hope they don't have to. "You go through any season I don't care how prolific your offense is there are going to be days when certain things don't work quite as well and go as well and there's no one person to blame," coach Dick Vermeil said. "I think what you do is give Tampa Bay credit, shut your mouth, go to work and make sure it doesn't happen again." Keeping his placeVermeil said he is sticking with kicker Jeff Wilkins, even though the player is suffering from tendidnitis in his non-kicking leg. Vermeil said he would consider other options if Wilkins health deteriorated. One such option is to keep Wilkins on the roster and make room for the addition of another kicker. Forty-three year-old Nick Lowery is the player the team was interested in last week when Wilkins health was also a question. He's the player they would turn to in an emergency situation. Wilkins was in the spotlight the last time the Titans and Rams played. He missed a 38-yard field goal attempt with seven seconds to play that would have tied the game. Against Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship game Wilkins made one of two kicks. He connected on a 24-yarder and missed from 44 yards wide right.
