PETE DYE'S DREAM 18

The course is arranged in two loops of nine holes. The front plays in a clockwise routing, while the back nine is played in a counter-clockwise rotation. There is a balance of left-to-right and right-to-left tee shots, and approaches and angles into the prevailing wind. Each nine contains holes of equal difficulty, with the back nine culminating in a strong par-five, par-three, par-four finish that emulates Donald Ross's Pinehurst conclusion.

The lead-off holes of each nine -- number one and number 10 -- are both par fours of relatively equal length and approximate difficulty. All par threes play in different directions, with the final par three of each nine -- number eight and number 17 -- playing over water.

This routing illustrates many lessons of the great golf courses of the past.
