SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Australian center Luc Longley, who was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the New York Knicks during the Olympics, will be out 8-10 weeks due to a knee injury.

Longley did not play for the home country in the bronze medal game Sunday (Saturday night EDT) against Lithuania.

The 7-foot-2 Longley injured his right knee late in Australia's 76-52 semifinal loss to France on Friday night. An MRI on Saturday revealed a slight ligament tear, team doctor Peter Harcourt said Sunday. He said he expected Longley to miss at least two months.

Longley, playing in his third Olympics, averaged 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in the tournament.

He was part of a four-team, 12-player trade that saw Patrick Ewing go from the Knicks to the Seattle SuperSonics.

Longley was the center for the Chicago Bulls in three of their six NBA championship seasons.
