SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Czech cyclist Jan Hruska is out of the Olympics after testing positive for what a Czech official identified as nandralone.

The International Cycling Union confirmed his disqualification Thursday in a statement from its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In Prague, Jaroslav Nekola, the head of the Czech Anti-Doping Committee, said the substance was nandrolone, an anabolic steroid.

Hruska was tested Sept. 13 during the Tour of Spain. A second test confirmed that "the anti-doping control ... was indeed positive," the ICU said.

"The Czech Cycling Federation has started proceedings against this rider for breach of the UCI anti-doping regulations" and has withdrawn him from the Olympics.

Hruska was to leave for Sydney on Wednesday, but his departure was postponed until Thursday pending results from a test on the second sample.

Hruska is the second member of the Czech Olympic team who tested positive for a banned substance. Weightlifter Zbynek Vacura was sent home after a test showed use of an anabolic steroid. He has denied using banned drugs.
