  A native of Brazil, Loiola played primarily on the American AVP tour until 1998. In 1993, he was the first international recipient of the AVP "Rookie of the Year" award. In 1998, he teamed up with countryman Emanuel Rego and began playing primarily on the International FIVB tour. By 1999, they established themselves as the best beach volleyball team in the world.
