2000 Sydney Olympics modern pentathlon competition

  Senior swam and ran cross-country competitively before starting modern pentathlon (in which athletes swim, run, horseback ride, fence and shoot). His first major international success came in 1999, when as a member of the U.S. Army Team, he won the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Championship team event. The same year, he also won the first Biathel World Championship (run-swim-run), an event created to test and attract potential pentathlon talent.

1999 Baltic Cup, 1st
1999 Biathel World Championships, 1st
1999 CISM World Championships, 1st (team event); 15th (individual)

1998 National Championships, 6th
Currently:
Senior entered the 2000 World Championships, held in June, ranked No. 1 one in the world. It was his first senior world championships, and while he helped the U.S. men to two gold medals (relay and team), he finished a disappointing 15th in individual competition. Also in 2000, he has had first-, third- and fourth-place finishes at World Cup events.
