Devers still looking to win the 100-meter hurdles
The long fingernails may be gone, but Gail Devers is still around. And the American will be going to Sydney looking to win yet another gold medal. Devers failed to qualify for the 100-meter sprint at the U.S. Olympic trials in July. So her main goal will be to win the 100-meter hurdles, the gold medal that has eluded her for 12 years. "I like to win them both to be honest, not to say I'm greedy," Devers says. "I mean everybody wants to do something that leaves a mark and I think winning three back to backs is historical. It's never been done before, male or female, so that would be a great accomplishment, but on the opposite side to that, the thing that keeps me on track is the 100-meter hurdles." However, fortune hasn't been on Devers' side in Olympic hurdle races and a number of misfortunes, including a heavy fall in the 1992 Olympic finals, have cost her gold in the past. Nevertheless, in Devers' mind it is only a matter of time until her goal is reached.
