Other cyclists competing in the Sydney Games -- in both the individual time
trial and road race -- will undoubtedly be a bit psyched out to see Armstrong
pedal up to the starting line. Why? Armstrong is coming off his second
consecutive dominating victory in the Tour de France, cycling's most prestigious
event. In this year's Tour, he won the Stage 19 time trial with the second
fastest average speed on record[53.986 kilometers an hour]. In 1996, Armstrong
was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The disease had spread to other areas of
his body, but after aggressive treatments he was declared cancer-free by October
1997.
