Miki Barber is a member of 2000 U.S. Olympic team 4x400-meter relay team. The junior at the University of South Carolina won the 2000 NCAA 400-meter title with a time of 51.14 seconds. In 1999, Barber became the first female at USC to win a medal at an international competition, placing second in the 400 meters and winning gold in the 4x400 relay at the World University Games. Check out Barber's Fashion Report on CNNSI.com throughout the Olympic Games.

September 8, 2000
Brisbane, Australia

I arrived in San Diego at about 1 p.m. on Sunday. I went to practice and then went and processed at the Olympic Center. It took about an 1 1/2 hours to process. You get a shopping cart and you go from station to station to get your gear, phone cards, cell phones, everything you can imagine. I was fitted for a leather jacket -- it's a black Bomber jacket. It has the Olympic rings on the back. It's thin but nice. The ring looks like a NCAA Championship ring. It's alloy gold. You can get it upgraded though. I will wear it all the time.

I haven't even looked at everything they gave us. Some of the stuff wasn't that fashionable, but its great to have. The workout gear is super -- very cool. The Opening Ceremonies outfit is a red blazer and a long dark blue shirt. Kind of like a Mary Poppins look because it kind of flips out at the bottom. Black pumps and a brown belt. Not something I would buy at the mall, but it will be an honor to wear it in the Opening Ceremonies. I am looking forward to seeing what other countries are going to wear. I bet Australia will really be decked out.

The sweat suit is real comfortable. Everything they gave us is real nice and comfortable. The uniform is dark blue. It's so dark and a different type of design. They also gave us a bunch of equipment bags. Then some Nike and adidas stuff. I am glad I brought plenty of my own going out clothes and shoes.

I really miss my twin sister Lisa. I called her (in college in Columbia, SC) and it took forever to get through. I just talked to her for a minute. It seems weird without her here, but I will see her in a month. I emailed her and I need her to check her email. Email is very in style, but right now we have just two computers here so there is a lot of waiting. It will be better when we get to the Olympic Village.

We are in Brisbane right now. We have a meet on Sunday. I will run the 400 meters and on the 4x400 meter relay. I have been feeling a bit sick -- I've had a headache the last couple of days. I hope I feel better later today.

I haven't been shopping yet. The mall here is big. They have everything here. Maybe we will go tomorrow or the next day. I like it here. It's so pretty here. The weather is so nice. Good weather but windy. Hopefully it won't be this windy on Sunday.

At practice today a lot of people had on the one piece uniform. They said it was real comfortable.

I've been hanging around with Monique Henderson (the high school girl from California), Shakida Jones (100m, 200m runner from UCLA) and Andrea Anderson (400m, UCLA). Monique is really nice -- we are two of the youngest people on the U.S. track team so we talk a lot. We talk a lot about college and of course clothes and guys!

I also see Nancine Perry quite a bit (100m, 200m runner from Texas) and Passion Richardson (100m, Kentucky). I know Sivante Stringfellow (triple jump, Mississippi). There are a lot of people older here. I have my eye on Alvin and Calvin Harrison -- they are twins running the 400m.

We leave for Sydney on Tuesday. I can't wait to get there and check everything out! More later.

-- Miki
