Although they finished seventh, the 1999 World Cup was a stepping stone for the Egyptian handball team. Coach Mohammed El Alfy knows the team will need all the practice it can get before Sydney.

"The Egyptian handball team is going to play with the best in the world, teams like Korea, Cuba, Germany and Russia, that is why we have to take care of the consequences of winning or loosing a match," says Egyptian coach Mohammed El Alfy.

The players are confident of achieving positive results and for Ahmad Bilal any game could go either way, after all they have already defeated the best teams in the world.

"In this period of training, we have played several matches and we won against France, Sweden and Portugal two times, which is good," Bilal says. "We are doing our best to achieve the highest level to get best results."

Sydney will be a tough test for the team that is now a dominant force in the Arab world. Their first match will come against Russia, which finished second at the World Cup.
