Chris Murray, 21, qualified for the Sydney Olympics in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events. A senior at the University of Georgia, he broke the Bahamanian national record in the 100m free (short course) at the Georgia Invitational in December 2000 and earned honorable mention honorable mention All-America accolades as the leadoff in Georgia's 200m and 400m freestyle relay at the 2000 NCAA Championships. Check in with Murray on CNNSI.com throughout the Olympics.

Sydney, Australia

What are some of the things you've been doing since getting to Sydney?

Well training of course, but also hanging out with people that I don't get to see very often. I also went down to the harbor and had lunch with my mom and aunt yesterday.

Have you had a chance to get to the pool?

The facility is mind-blowing. I have never seen anything like it, and the stands are unreal for a swim pool. Tonight was the first night and the energy inside that building was intense. Also the pool is fast -- that was proven as four world records fell.

What are some of the interesting things you've seen in the Village?

People in costumes, people on theses huge stilts, 7'6" tall athletes, a few celebrities and a ton of people dressed in their team uniforms.

Did you attend the Opening Ceremonies?

Yes. It was awesome. It did take a long time for everyone to get inside the stadium, but once the show continued it was great. The torch lighting was exceptional. I can't wait to see what they do at the next Olympics, because the way they lit the torch here seemed amazing to me.

Who are some of the people that you've met?

Mostly swimmers from other countries. Most of the celebrity athletes are not staying in the village, but I saw a lot of people at the Opening like Venus & Serena Williams and some Dream Team USA basketball players.

What have you been able to see and do outside of the Village?

I went downtown and walked around a few times, but I have not been able to do much yet till I am done competing because I want to stay off of my legs as much as possible.

Have you eaten any food that is indigenous to Australia?

I have not had a chance to eat some true authentic Australian food yet -- only what is in the Village so far. I am sure I will though after I am done competing on Tuesday.

-- Chris
