Spain announce cycling squad for Sydney Olympics
MADRID, Aug 23 (AFP) - Abraham Olano will spearhead the Spanish road cycling team to compete at the Sydney Olympics which kicks off on September 15, the Spanish federation announced Wednesday. The Once rider will be joined by his teammate David Etxebarria, as well as Vitalicio riders Juan Carlos Dominguez and Miguel Angel Martin Perdiguero, with Oscar Freire of the Mapei team completing the men's lineup. On the women's side, Joane Somarriba who won this year's Tour de France as well as the Tour of Italy headlines a strong team which also features Mercedes Cagigas and Fatima Blazquez. Somarriba will be joined by Dori Ruano for the time-trial, while Olano and Dominguez will contest the men's discipline of the race against the clock.
