Injured Jamaican hurdler in race against time
BRISBANE, Australia, Sept 4 (AFP) - Jamaica's leading high hurdler Robert Foster faces a frantic race against time to be fit for the Sydney Olympics after breaking his collarbone here Sunday. Foster tripped over the last hurdle in the 110m race at the pre-Olympics meet at Nudgee College Sunday night and crashed to the ground five metres from the finish line. At the time, Foster was challenging eventual winner Robin Korvene of the Netherlands (13.53) and Australian Kyle Vander-Kuyp (13.77) for first place. Australian team doctor Chris Bradshaw said Foster would have a steel plate fitted to the collarbone in the next 24 hours. He is unlucky that the opening round of the 110m hurdles at the Sydney Olympics is early in the programme on September 24, giving him less three weeks' recovery time. "He has a chance of competing at the Games - it'll be touch and go," said Bradshaw. Foster is the leading Jamaican on the world rankings at No.44.
