SYDNEY, Sept 27 (AFP) - Women's world hammer record holder Mihaela Melinte was Wednesday barred from competing in the Olympic heats for failing a doping test a month ago, a spokesman for the International Amateur Athletics Federation said.

The Romanian had been entered by her national federation but the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) stepped in and ordered her out.
