LAUTOKA, Fiji (Reuters) -- Fiji held on to beat Tonga 25-20 on Saturday in a Pacific Rim championship qualifier in Lautoka.

Fiji raced away to a 25-3 lead after two tries by Norman Ligairi and Vilimoni Delasau before the Tongans stormed back into the match.

Sengili Tuihalamaka kicked two first half penalties to reduce the halftime score to 25-6 before replacement winger Solomone Matangi scored two second half tries to put his side with reach of victory before time ran out.

The Tongans did collect a bonus point for losing by less than seven points to join Fiji in second place behind Samoa on the championship standings with one match each to play.

The top two teams will qualify for the Pacific Rim finals in Japan later this year.
