This year's preseason champion will be determined using a points system similar to the MLS regular season. Teams will earn three points for a regulation or overtime win and one point for a draw. To eliminate the possibility of ties in the standings, teams will also earn one bonus point for each goal scored (with a maximum of three per team per match). The team that emerges from its three matches with the most points will be declared the 2001 MLS Spring Training Champion.
All games to be played at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
