The World Cup will be played at 10 venues across France. The cities and the stadiums for this World Cup vary greatly in size. The capital city of Paris with 9.5 million people is easily the largest city to host games, while tiny Lens with a population of barely 35,000 is the smallest. The tournament's showpiece venue is the recently built Stade de France, located in the Parisian suburb of St. Denis, which has a capacity of 80,000. It will be the site of the first and final match of France '98.
