Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known throughout the world for its fine wine. The area produces more than 500 million bottles of wine per year. During the finals, visitors will get a chance to sample the products along the banks of the Garonne. It is interesting to note t hat the English developed the wine trade when they occupied the region from the 12th to 15th century. The town was also a major commerce center during the Roman era. The city is now home to 214,000 residents, 697,000 with the outlying areas counted. It is also the site of a large university with 60,000 students.

Stadium
Lescure Stadium, Bordeaux

Lescure Stadium is considered a national landmark and one of the best examples of 1930s architecture. Stadium capacity is 35,200 seats. Lescure has been the stage for soccer, track and field as well as cycling events. The stadium is located near the ce nter of town, a few miles from the rail station.
