Pavel Bure Pavel Bure has 25 goals but no other Panther has more than nine. Steve Babineau/Allsport

By Jacob Luft, CNNSI.com

There are so many ways to measure the utter futility that is the 2000-01 Florida Panthers.

Despite having one of the game's top goal scorers in Pavel Bure, the Panthers have found the back of the net only 103 times, ahead of only the expansion Minnesota Wild. They've been shut out five times and scored fewer than three goals 30 times in 49 games.

The Panthers have scored a mere 26 goals on the power play while allowing 10 short-handed goals.

There is the record of 10-25-8-6, which computes to a paltry 34 points. At this pace, the Panthers will end the season with 57 points one year after a 98-point season. The dropoff of 41 points from one year to the next would represent the largest in NHL history.

Here is a look at the NHL's biggest one-season declines -- and gains -- over the years.
