Spain's Francisco Clavet holds his trophy after winning the final of the ATP Romanian Tennis Open Tournament AP

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) -- Top-seeded Francisco Clavet of Spain defeated France's unseeded Arnaud Di Pasquale 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to win the $350,000 Romanian Open tennis tournament Monday.

The victory was worth $45,000 and moved Clavet up seven places in the world rankings to 24th.

In the first set, the two staged long rallies on a slow, wet clay court at Progresul Arena. Then, Clavet managed a break and took the set.

In the second set, Di Pasquale replied with a powerful service and strong backhands and won two games on Clavet's service.

But Clavet came back in the final set, leading 4-1, before Di Pasquale broke his serve and evened the score 4-4. Then Di Pasquale lost his concentration and made some unforced errors, and lost the set and the match.

The final was postponed Sunday because of rain.

In the doubles final, also played Monday, Romanians Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu beat compatriots George Cosac and Dinu Pescariu 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).
