Here's what he said on CNN/Sports Illustrated's Sports Tonight.
Plus, a few comments from our users.

I need a timeout...

You will between now and Saturday hear everything about the history of the "Subway Series."

You'll see people who claim they were there for Larsen's perfect game in 1956. You'll meet those who still haven't forgiven the Dodgers and Giants for leaving.

You will want to be sick of all these New Yorkers talking about people and places you couldn't find on a map if Regis was waving a million dollars in front of your nose ... but, don't.

Embrace it, friends. In this world of expansion, wild cards and free agency, this World Series has nothing else if not tradition.

Personally, I can't wait.

And look at it this way, even if you hate both teams, revel in the knowledge that in the end one New York team has to lose.

You Fired Back

After Fred's rant appeared on Sports Tonight, CNNSI.com users shared their opinions. Here are some of their responses:

Tradition, come on Fred! This World Series spits right in the face of tradition, considering one of the teams didn't even win its division. The wild card totally cheapens a 162-game season. Keep your Bernie Williams, Benny Agbayani and El Duque, thank you.
Dave Ornauer, Tokyo

Hey Fred, I am a long time Yankee fan formally from Danbury, Conn. who now resides in Canada outside of Toronto. I am so happy about the Subway Series the only thing that bothers me is that I can't be there with my brothers and my dad, GO YANKEES!
Bob Barry, Brampton, Ontario

You're right Fred. One of the New York teams has to lose, and that is a good thing for those of us that can't stand either team. But you forgot to mention the worst part. One of them has to win, which spoils any fun we might have in knowing that the other lost. .
