Surprise, surprise

France upsets Australia in Davis Cup doubles

Not even a last-minute lineup change for Australia could bother the French doubles team Saturday. Cedric Pioline and Fabrice Santoro upset Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-1 Saturday to give France a 2-1 lead over Australia in the Davis Cup tennis final. A win by a French player on Sunday would give France its ninth Davis Cup and help avenge Australia's win over France in Nice in 1999.
